You know how some people say “it’s just pizza”? Yeah… we get it. But we don’t agree.
Because when you’ve spent months testing ingredients, built a 2.5-tonne kitchen on wheels, and fed hundreds of hungry folk with feedback that nearly brings a tear to your eye… it’s not just pizza. It’s a bit more personal.
That’s why we started The Woodfired Kitchen.
It’s not fancy, and it’s definitely not perfect (it’s close), but it’s proper. And it’s growing, fast. From rainy Thursday nights in York to 200-person parties in a barn for 12-20 year old farmers, we’re out here trying to make damn good food for people who deserve it.
What We Love About Doing This
We don’t shout about it much, but our oven weighs 850kg and is built to last longer than most start-up catering outfits. It isn’t some metal dome with a flame, though they all have their place. It doesn’t run on gas. It runs on recycled wood. And hard graft to keep it at the right temp.
That alone doesn’t make the pizza good, though. That comes from the 72-hour sourdough, the San Marzano tomatoes, and our obsession with making it right every time. Or at least trying to, come on we are still young 😉 . There are a lot of trailers out there slinging pizzas – and fair play to them. But some skip the basics. They use quick dough, sweetened sauce, and pizza ovens that wouldn’t look out of place in a garden party.
We didn’t go that route. Maybe we’re daft. But we think people can taste the difference, and the feedback we’ve had so far seems to back that up. We’re not The Woodfired Kitchen by chance..
What Your Kind Words Mean to Us
We’ve had strangers send messages. People walk up to the van just to chat ovens. Repeat customers who travel to wherever we’re parked up. One lad in Riccall came back three times in two nights. We don’t say this to brag. We say it because we still can’t quite believe it.
You’ve no idea how much it means.
It makes the long prep days, the endless cleaning, the weather watching, the twisted fire starting – all worth it.
Where to Find Us (and where should we go?)
If you’re in York, Harrogate, Wetherby or Leeds – chances are, you’ll see the trailer soon. We’ve got pop-up evenings, village nights, weddings and street events stacked into the diary.
We’re also pricing up more and more festival and party quotes – so if you’ve got a suggestion or you’d love to see us turn up on a Thursday night in your neck of the woods… send us a message.
We’d love to keep building this thing with the help of the people who’ve supported us from the start.
Street Food’s on the Up — and We’re All In
It’s not just us noticing the street food scene heating up.
According to recent research from Street Food Live and CGA Insight, over 75% of UK consumers aged 25-45 actively seek out food trucks and pop-ups as part of their social calendar. The surge in demand for mobile kitchens has seen massive growth across the North – with Leeds and York named as two of the most active cities for event-based catering.
More people want quality, creativity, and connection. They want to chat to the person who made their food. They want something different from what they can get on a JustEat menu.
That’s where we fit in – or at least, where we’re aiming to.
We’re not the loudest. We’re not the biggest. But we’ve got heart, heat and a whole lot of dough to share. Oh, and tunes. If you know us at all, or are getting to, you’ll know the music is the glue to everything! We even have a couple of pizza service playlists. I say couple…
See you by the hatch.
